HISTORY OF COMPANION

In 1991, Michael Uranga saw firsthand the state of post-acute healthcare and was inspired to change what palliative care looks like. A licensed nursing home administrator, Uranga knew there was a serious need in home health and hospice care, not only for quality clinical care, but also care delivered with honesty and compassion. Partnering with select nursing staff, he founded Companion Home Health and Hospice in 1994.

Uranga and his small staff started the business out of a trailer in Orange, Calif., with only three desks and one computer. Sharing Uranga’s vision, a few special individuals built the foundation of what Companion Home Health and Hospice is today. With many of the pioneers still working to fulfill the company’s original principles, Companion today has a footprint spanning three states with employees that still honor and carry forward the 25+ year legacy of specialized patient-centered care.
